What it is

Smart film, in one paragraph

Smart film — also called smart tint, switchable privacy film or electric privacy glass — is a PDLC laminate bonded to existing glass. Unpowered, it scatters light and reads as frost. Powered, it clears. Ghost Glass™ lists the system at 45–60 VAC and 0.5 watts per square foot, with up to 99.99% UV protection.

  • PDLC film is custom fabricated to your measured glass and applied to the existing pane — the glass itself is not replaced.
  • With power off the film is frosted for privacy; with power on it turns clear. The change is immediate and there are no moving parts.
  • The system runs on low voltage, listed by the manufacturer at 45–60 VAC and 0.5 W per square foot.
  • Control can be a wall switch, a remote, or a compatible smart control system depending on the project.
  • Maximum cut width is 5.9 ft; length is unlimited, so wide openings are planned as multiple coordinated panels.
  • Ghost Glass™ lists up to 99.99% UV protection.

Process

How a project runs

Five stages, from first measurement to a commissioned, tested wall of glass.

  1. 01

    Measure & design

We measure each pane, map the wiring path, choose a transformer location and agree the control method before anything is ordered.

  2. 02

    Custom fabrication

Film is fabricated to your exact glass dimensions by Ghost Glass™. Normal product lead time is 12–20 working days depending on size and quantity.

  3. 03

    Dry-apply installation

PDLC film is dry-applied to the existing glass — no water or slip solution — with careful edge detailing and busbar protection.

  4. 04

    Licensed electrician connection

A licensed electrician makes the electrical connections and terminates the low-voltage supply, as required by the manufacturer.

  5. 05

    Commission & test

Every panel is switched, tested and handed over with control instructions and manufacturer warranty documentation.

Planning range

$35–$85 per sq ft installed

Installed planning range. Where a project lands inside the range depends on panel sizes, quantity, wiring path, control method, access, edge detailing and electrical coordination.

What moves the number

  • Panel sizes and how many panes the opening needs
  • Wiring path and how far the film is from a power source
  • Transformer location and whether wiring is concealed
  • Control method: switch, remote or smart integration
  • Access, height and site conditions on installation day

Planning range only — not a quote. Final pricing is confirmed after measurement, a wiring-path review and a control-method decision.
